Detoxification consists of three levels of care with varying services to support the needs of the client: Social Detox, Medically Supported, and Medical Detox. For additional information and resources concerning detox programs in Louisiana, please click the "Detox Units" link above.
The state offers gambling treatment services for problem and compulsive gamblers throughout the state. These programs include: Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, and Residential treatment services. Treatment is provided by licensed professional counselors that specialize in treatment of gambling disorders. Treatment services consist of screening, assessment, individual/group counseling and education. The programs are designed to provide insight, encouragement and proven strategies for regaining stability and helping the compulsive gambler achieve and maintain stable recovery.
Outpatient Clinics provide professionally directed community-based evaluation, treatment and recovery services. Such services are provided in regularly scheduled sessions of fewer than nine (9) contact hours per week, consisting primarily of counseling and education about substance-related and mental health problems. The patient’s need for psychiatric and medical services are addressed through consultation and referral arrangements if the patient is stable and requires only maintenance and/or monitoring.
Intensive Outpatient Programs
Intensive Outpatient Programs provide nine (9) or more hours of structured community-based programming per week, consisting primarily of counseling and education about substance-related and mental health problems. The patient’s needs for psychiatric and medical services are addressed through consultation and referral arrangements if the patient is stable and requires only maintenance and/or monitoring.
As with detox units, residential facilities also have varying levels of care based on the client's needs. These range from low intensity to medically monitored intensive treatments.
