The Molluscan Shellfish Program at the Louisiana Department of Health produces Seasonal Reclassification Maps 2 times a year to classify molluscan shellfish growing areas for 4 classification periods: March through April, May through August, September through October, and November through February. Each classification period is a result from extensive water quality sampling during adverse conditions using the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) criteria as specified in the National Shellfish Sanitation Program's (NSSP) manual.
