USSSA Governor’s Games Draws Record Number of Players

Le Triomphe CC, Broussard, Louisiana, served as the host for this USSSA Golf Junior Tour event on the weekend of July 16-17, as a record 31 golfers participated in the 2011 Governor’s Games Championship.

The Governor’s Office on Physical Fitness, Cajun Carts, Acadiana Karate,  Louisiana USSSA and Lafayette Coca Cola served as the official sponsors for this  junior golf outing, and  with the help of PGA Professionals, Craig Perks, Jeff Perry, Matt Berry and John Hargrave,  the USSSA conducted another quality junior golf event, despite rain, and two lightning delays on Sunday.

In Boys 15-18 competition, Jordan Cole,  captured the championship as the Gibsland,  Louisiana, competitor posted scores of 76 and 77 (153 total), and then survived a five hole playoff against Jennings High School golfer, Jesse Hebert (80-73), as Cole eagled hole number one, in their fifth playoff hole to determine a champion.  Cole’s two day total included 18 pars, and six birdies.  Hebert’s 73 on Sunday provided the low score for the tournament, and his 16 pars, and six birdies provided Jesse with his first trophy win in USSSA Golf. Third place honors went to Nick Hollier, Abbeville, 79-77-156, while fourth place award was claimed by Matthew Chastain, Zachary, after he posted a 159 total (83-76).

In Boys 12-14 action, Lake Charles, Louisiana golfer, Austin Campbell, captured his second USSSA Championship with a 157 total (80-77).  Finishing tied for  second place was Hunter Cooley, DeRidder, with a 158 (80-78) two day total and Nick Dartez, Baton Rouge (78-80). Campbell’s  effort included 20 pars and four birdies during his 36 hole effort.
