The Department of Health and Hospitals, Office for Addictive Disorders, in partnership with WeRecover Louisiana, is hosting community meetings for area residents to discuss strategies to help combat drug and alcohol addiction.
The purpose of the meetings will be to plan activities for Recovery Month. The theme for this year’s Recovery Month is “Join the Voices for Recovery . . . Now!” Attendees will discuss ways to let those in the community know that alcohol and drug addiction are treatable public health challenges. Plans will also be discussed for Sober Jam 2004, a family event to be held in New Orleans that seeks to reduce the stigma surrounding drug addiction and treatment.
Two meetings will be held in Lafayette, one for service providers and one for people who are in recovery. Recovering individuals and their families, treatment professionals, 12-step public information committees, public health resource/community service providers, prevention and intervention groups, the faith community, housing support service providers and related professionals are encouraged to attend.
