The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals' (DHH) Office of Behavioral Health is in the process of transitioning patient care and phasing down operations on the campus of Southeast Louisiana Hospital, while building partnerships with private sector providers and targeting improved models of care that focus on smaller settings rather than large, state-run institutions.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) has determined a need exists to expand opioid treatment services in DHH Administrative Regions VIII and IX and is seeking applications from any entity interested and capable of providing opioid treatment services within those designated regions. The following parishes are included in Region VIII: Caldwell, East Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, and Tensas, Union and West Carroll. The following parishes are included in Region IX: Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Behavioral Health will host a series of 10 forums aimed at educating the public about the addictive disorders programs offered in their communities. These informational sessions begin Wednesday, June 13 in Pineville and Lafayette, and wrap up two weeks later in Gray.

DHH is offering special recognition to its nursing staff during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, a week set aside to honor all of America’s 3.1 million registered nurses, including the more than 54,000 nurses in Louisiana.

The Department of Health and Hospitals and CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital are working together to transition the adult psychiatric services now provided at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital, a state-owned and operated hospital in Lake Charles, to CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital. CHRISTUS St. Patrick Behavioral Health Services will begin serving these patients April 2, 2012.

Greenstein and Magellan Health Services Chairman and CEO René Lerer, M.D., were joined by top state officials, health care providers, family representatives and behavioral health advocates today to launch the Louisiana Behavioral Health Partnership - the state's new system to transform and enhance behavioral health care across the state.
