Congratulations to East Baton Rouge Parish Schools for winning the 2014 State Championship!
The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has seen a significant increase in the physical fitness levels of elementary school children in the last three years from the 30 parishes that participate in the Fitness Meet program. More than 200,000 Students train for the event at the beginning of each school year and preliminary meets start in the spring. The top two boys and girls from each parish must survive their initial competition from their schools and compete against other kids in their parish before they reach the championship.
Strategy: Students will perform the identical fitness tests acquired from the President's Challenge. Tests will consist of: the 50-yard Dash, Sit and Reach, Pull-ups, the Shuttle Run, Curl-ups (sit-ups), Standing Long Jump, and the 600-Yard Run. The top scores from two boys and girls will qualify them for the Elementary Championship Fitness Meet to be held in Baton Rouge. Elementary school children will compete against other parishes from around the state. The Governor's Fitness Council sponsors this Olympic-style event in the spring of each year at the LSU Field House on the Baton Rouge campus, but this year the 2014 event will be held at Woodlawn High School.
More than twenty-five parishes compete each year in the Championship Fitness Meet and efforts are being made to encourage all parishes to participate. Motivational speakers, like Miss Louisiana, famous pro and college athletes and other dignitaries attend the event. The event will be held on Saturday, May 3 at Woodlawn High School, 15755 Jefferson Hwy, in Baton Rouge. For more information, contact Rudy Macklin at 342-4886 or email@example.com.
